Happy Valentine's Day Everyone

I thought I would share with you an artist who I find to be beautifully romantic (even though he believes he is not).



"Other Planets"

I have seen these plates pop up around stores in Newtown recently and I have fallen in love.

I want them.


So I thought I would learn more about the artist who designs them.

Rob Ryan is a UK based artist who specialises in detailed paper cuts. These paper designs are then either used as screen-prints, or transferred onto a number of different mediums including ceramics, fabric, jewellery and paper. 


'My Universe'

 The above has written on it: "You are my universe. Moons circle planets and planets circle stars, stars and galaxies rotate eternally and you and I circle each other for you are my universe entirely and I will always be yours".

He says he is not a romantic... In a recent article with the Guardian he said:

"When people ask my wife if I'm romantic, she just sort of smiles this forced polite smile as if she's saying 'Hmm, if only you knew the half of it,'" he laughed. "But then every piece isn't all about her or me; they're just stories. The words I come up with are just words, not poetry. Some of it's happy, some of it's sad, some of it's mysterious."

Either way, I like the stories he tells.



'I miss being a small girl'

 


Above is Rob's Valentine screen print for this year. The great thing is that it comes in 3 combinations: boy/girl, girl/girl and boy/boy.

It reads:
"All of the thoughts that I have held inside me ever since I was very small, silly fancies, grandiose ideas and embarrassing and happy and silly dreams that were always just mine and mine alone.

Could I share with you, and you alone, everything that lives inside my heart and my head that I have never shared with anyone but myself all of the years I have lived so far until now"
